Keywords

Why does a keyword say I'm “not ranking”?

“Not ranking” means you're not in the top 10 Google Maps results for that keyword from your tracked location — AyanaSEO checks the top 10, so anything beyond that shows as not ranking rather than a specific number. It's a starting point, not a dead end.

A keyword can read “not ranking” because it's genuinely competitive, because it's a bit off from what your profile signals you do, or because it's in an area far from your location — check the geo-grid, since you may rank near you and not across town.

What to do: make sure a page on your site clearly targets the phrase (in the title and copy), that your Google Business categories and services cover it, and that you have the reviews and citations to compete. Then watch the keyword in your rank history — climbing into the top 10 is the first milestone.

If several “not ranking” keywords are ones competitors win, that's exactly what the “Where competitors are beating you” panel and Discovery are for.

Why this matters: “Not ranking” isn't a verdict — it tells you which searches you're invisible for today, which is the first step to targeting them.
