Citations

How do I add my business to a directory correctly (consistent NAP)?

Add your business to the directory using your name, address, and phone formatted exactly as they appear on your Google Business Profile — identical spelling, abbreviations, and suite format. Consistency is the entire point of a citation, so copy from your Google listing rather than retyping from memory.

What you'll use: Your Google Business Profile (the source of truth for your NAP) and the Citations gap list to pick which directory to add next.

Steps

  1. Open the Citations page and pick the highest-priority gap (the directory with the most competitors listed).
  2. Open your Google Business Profile in another tab and copy your business name, address, and phone exactly as shown there.
  3. Create the listing on the directory, pasting each field verbatim — match abbreviations (“Ste” vs “Suite”), punctuation, and phone format to your Google listing.
  4. After you've added a few, use “Refresh” on the Citations page to re-check your gap — available once every 30 days.
Why this matters: A citation only helps if it matches — an inconsistent listing can do more harm than good, so treat your Google Business Profile as the single source of truth and copy from it every time.
